New birth control pill 2021
As of July 1, 2021, there is a new combined hormonal contraceptive called Drovelis.
In addition to the well-known progestogen drospirenone (3 mg), this also contains estetrol (14.2 mg), a bioidentical estrogen, which is thus a new product.
New mini pill 2021
Since May 2021, there is a new mini pill called Slinda
This is an estrogen-free pill.
The contraceptive effect is primarily achieved by inhibiting ovulation. An increase in the viscosity of the cervical mucus is among the other effects of drospirenone. In addition, the progestogen has an effect on the endometrium, which becomes thinner as a result.
One advantage is that the risk of thrombosis is much lower than with the classic birth control pills and prevents so-called edema (water retention).
It can also be taken during breastfeeding. One disadvantage is that irregular menstrual periods may occur. However, cycle control improves with increasing duration of use.
